Sporting Heroes Statues
Barking and Dagenham has had a number of national and international sporting heroes who have lived in Barking and Dagenham. In 2008 the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham commissioned a statue to commemorate some of them. The sculpture is made out of steel and can be seen on the A13.
The sculpture recognises the achievements of:
Bobby Moore who was the England caption who England to their 1966 football World Cup victory
Sir Alf Ramsey who was the Manager of the English team and led them to victory in the 1966 football World Cup
Jason Leonard has played for England more than any other player and when he lived in Barking and Dagenham he attended Warren Junior School
Beverley Gull is a former Paralympic swimming champion
